Rapid cycling on Fatboy

What nozzles are you using now? There are specific nozzles for the fat boy from Bob at Pressure Tek. 5850 and the fat boy are really not designed for feathering. Having said that we all have done it and I don't make a habit of it. When a 12 volt pump goes it's always at the worst possible time.

I had a 100 psi fat boy and went back to the 60 for that reason. I’m liking the fat boy 3 better then the 2. I just pulled the 2 off my skid because of cycling. May have just been a bad pump so now it’s my backup Like Hank said get the correct 4 banger

I have the correct 4 banger from Pressure Tek. Art, now that you mention it, it may be due to the 100 psi pump. I don't recall having had this issue when using the 60 psi one or two years ago. The 100 psi does shoot farther though.

My 100psi FB3 was working great til the bolts sheared off and it fell apart. I sent it in for "warranty" they didn't replace it. Disappointing.

I think that happens from bolting the pump down to tight. Try zip ties Bryan

It has factory mounts on it for installing, so I used them. If that's a defect they should at least replace the pump. I'm switching back the Flo-Jets but i did like the Fatboy while it was working.

I’m on my phone so I can’t edit the post. If you bolt the pump to tight it can’t vibrate. It has rubber feet so the pump has a Sh ock. Bolting to tight it can’t move and the bolts shear on the head of the pump. Zip tie it down and it can move and you can take it out much easier

We use 40's and 30's and do not have the issue. I don't really care what Bob sells because you can easily dial in the pump for just about any orifice size you are using. I've even put 50's in with no issue. Spray, turn the allen screw in the pressure switch, spray and turn again. Keep adjusting until the cycling stops. I've been doing this for years. I also remove the factory relay and install the Ford solenoid.

We use #40 orifice. I have had to adjust the pressure now and then while spraying with the valve full on (not feathering). I too remove the worthless relay and wire it to a BWD Continuous Duty Solenoid.

Then the best thing to do is not use it so it cycles. We always spray the perimeter first, then fill in. Don't know what else I can add that would help.

It looks like the standard FB but painted black versus blue. Looking at the specs I'm not sure there is anything different about it. It might just simply be brand labeled.

I just took a closer look. It can be ordered with Viton valves. I am a bit concerned about the drop with PSI. Northern Tool for 200.00.

I have never had a problem with pumps from Bob at pressure tek, but i bought a fatboy two from pawmal or what ever they are called and I hate it! Constant cycling! I took the cheaper road and it sucks! I will try to adjust it with an allen key

The table indicates the diaphragm on the Extreme Duty pump is constructed with Geolast. Is anyone familiar with that?

I have 3 fatboy 2s (from pwmall) that the bolts sheared off. I had one replaced on warranty. Have to send the others back.

I adjust the pressure screw and dont have an issue with cycling. I did notice that the pumps habe started coming with the pressure turned way down

That's interesting that the bolts have sheared off. Someone mentioned that could be due to over tightening the rubber mounting feet. The rubber feet cannot absorb the vibration which might lead to the bolts shearing off.

Never had a problem with bolts shearing off. My pump is held in place by the Mixing Proportioner I built. Tie your pump down with ZIP Tie's as I have said many times.

I finally got my repaired pump back from Delevan. I'm not sure if they rebuilt it or just replaced the screws, but it's back and ready to go. The new bolts look a little fatter than the originals.

The day after I posted here the fatboy from palmal fried up! Im not even returning it, so disgusted it lasted like a month. Pumps from Bob go a year no problems....never again.

Well Today the second pump from that place fried up! What a waste of money, Im so angry....nothing but junk! Never again!

After using the fat boys for roofs a few times several years ago I switched back to the Delavan 5850. The one on the truck now has over 14 months of actual service. We wash it out daily, keep elbows to a minimum, keep the battery fully charged and all connections cleaned Just old school maintenance. We always carry a spare 5850 in the truck but it's buried and been asleep for a long time.

Same here. We follow the battle ship philosophy to have spares for everything on board so we are not left stranded on the job should something fail.
