Purple Power to clean gutters

In the past, I have used F-13 Gutter Grenade to clean the oxide off of gutters and it works well. I remember reading some time ago someone had mentioned they use Purple Power which costs less. I looked at the instructions on the bottle of Purple Power I have and it warns not to use on painted surfaces. Just as an experiment I spray a test spot on my own gutter. I left it on no more than a minute. Sure enough it was dissolving the paint! If you use this stuff you had better dilute it. Has anyone else had any experiences with this good or bad?

Try Totally Awesome from the one of the dollar stores. I works in early spring. Like any gutter detergent don't let it dry on the surfaces and rinse thoroughly.

Thanks Hank. Can you just apply it with a soft brush without scrubbing?

Every gutter cleaning formula has to be scrubbed. Totally awesome works well but it will still remove paint especially when the paint is already failing prior to washing. I have seen painted gutters start to leach even with a .5% house wash mix. You just never really know what your going to run into from job to job.

Like Mike said there are no short cuts. An effort has to put into the job and the results are outstanding.

I ran out and purchased some Totally Awesome at the local Dollar Tree Store. Attached are photos showing before cleaning, cleaning at full strength and cleaning at half strength. As you can see, at full strength it takes a good deal of paint off. I started out diluting it 1:10 per the instructions for oxidizing paint and the oxidation didn't budge. I progressed to 2:10 and then 3:10 and then 5:10. 5:10 seemed to be most effective without leaching too much paint. And yes I did have to lightly scrub.

My experience with cleaning 2-story gutters from the ground with a pole was a pain in the rear. I ended up climbing the ladder. What do you guys find easier? I would charge about $3.00 per foot. I will be quoting an association that wants the soffit and fascia cleaned as well as the gutter. Any advise on that?

Elimination from ACR! Great stuff! We use our water fed pole that will extend to four stories without the water hooked up.

I have not heard of Elimination. I assume you simply dip the brush end of your pole into a bucket of cleaner?

Aren't those pretty much the same, Art? Reason I say that is that gutter butter smells like something I've used before but can't remember what.  Craig's new Double Eagle degreaser also smells like gutter butter.

They all use the same Chemist.  There is no secret formula anymore, they all just copy each other.

I use a curved gutter "applicatior" like Marxsoff (detroitsponge. com) dip like a mop.

I would love to find one that the head pivots 2 directions.

if anyone know one please post!
