I am on a war path (well sort of) with Yelp since they will not post 11 great reviews. I'll bet if I paid for advertising they would somehow get unlocked! I found a group on FB... Yelp Sucks. The stories are crazy! Worth joining and added bonus to STAY CLEAR of Yelp! I have removed Yelp from thank you emails and my website.

If you stop picking up when they call
You wouldn't have to hang up!

The idiots who get fired from Home Advisor go to work for Yelp.
Don't do it! They will suck you dry! Go join the Yelp Sucks Facebook page. Tons of horror stories.

You know...I actually got a job through Yelp a few weeks ago. I would never pay for their advertising, but having a listing was worth it. They contacted me through my Yelp inbox.

I don't advertise on Yelp, or anyplace like that anymore. It is important to keep, at least, a free listing there.

Yes Yelp frequently contacts me as well. I just might have to put them on my do not call list.

Be careful with Yelp Dave. You may or may not be successful getting on their do not call list. I doubt it will happen. If they don't like you it is common for any good reviews you have to be put in the hidden area and new negative reviews will show up. Screen shot everything you have on Yelp. It can miraculously change over night.
Here is what the admin on Yelps Sucks does when they call:
"When they call us we just say the owner is out of State, he is rarely here. But try in a few months because he is interested in Yelp. .... (so they keep the good reviews up... They think they have a fish on the line). They call again.. Sorry you missed him, try next month."

I wish everyone would post how bad Yelp is on their FB pages so everyone who cares to read it will stop using them on both ends. That is the only way they will go away. No reviews, no subscribers.
Fortunately, they never got a chance to burn me but I detest business practices like they have and they hurt so many small business.

Did he sign up with them? If I absolutely had to choose which one to give money to it would be HA. At least you have a chance of making some money with them.

Home advisor can work for some but not for others. Home Advisor worked for me evertime I used it.

I should elaborate, I was getting fake leads. Where I would get charged $30 for a lead and the phone number would be BS. Then I would have to call them and get a refund. Yes I would get the refund but who the heck has time for that? Let alone them reselling the leads, they say they sell to 3 people, but one of them is another lead service. So they are technically only selling it 3 times but it goes to a web of people.
I like leads that are created by me, that way it is controllable and scale-able.

Those companies are a pain in the butt and I have had my issues with them. I had good luck with them and I would use them again. I know alot of guys that hate these companies but for some of the start up guys that don't have a website or and advertising budget , these sites can and will get them work. The big key to home advisor is to call right away and get on it quick. Angie's list is more about targeting you local area and keeping the Customer happy. Every time I have requested a refund from Home advisor I always got it. I'm actually planning on using then again this year to to elevate our gross sales so I can move forward with our 2nd truck

They were on the phone with me today and she wouldn't take no for an answer. Luckily you guys shared your stories and I was educated on how to deal with them by not listening. Thanks again guys.

There are all sorts of ways to play with them. Tell them the decision maker is out of the country for a while, you already spent your advertising budget, if you spend anymore money on your business your wife will leave you. The list is endless. Or you can choose to stay on the phone knowing you are wasting their time so they can't call some other person who might get sucked in. If I have some free time I love to mess with the robo callers or those from Yelp, HA, etc. and just keep them on the phone.
