I have an idea about advertising for all of us on here. Of course we all pay for our own advertising but the idea may look and sound good benefiting all of us. I''m a firm believer in not advertising in the winter months for obvious reasons, but also I don't want some guy who's sitting around to see it late October and work on becoming a roof cleaner over the winter. So I think it should wait until aprilish that way bythe time they are up and running we are mid season. But we have time to see how this joint goes.

We spent 10.6 % on advertising. It allowed us to beat last years numbers by 48%. Very good year overall.

I guess okay, I mean I really didn't advertise at all this year and did well.

We spent less than 2% of gross on true advertising, but 10-12% on marketing

Signs out in the winter is a good idea because the town leaves them alone for some reason

I hate to sound like a Luddite, but believe it or not my Yellow Pages ad actually does pretty well. Now that being said, I do have the largest ad, and it's a quarter page. I think small ads are a waste of time, if you're going to do it go big.

Up north a lot of advertising is done to let the consumer know that it is possible to clean a roof. A lot of it is just timing, the old being at the right place at the right time. Roof cleaning ad in yellow pages won't work up here because people do not search roof cleaning. I just sold a job today for stucco cleaning due to a rock flier 3 - 4 months ago followed by an internet search with a click to ad words. Repetition and an advertising plan of attack is crucial.

Advertising.. sort of. I'm taking the advice of Steve Stevens, Pressure Cleaning Bible Marketing.
I have hand addressed envelopes to every customer for the past four years. The return address is a street address only. Once open they will find a discount that is usually offered to multi project jobs. I know how many are going out and will be able to track this pretty easy. The cost is minimal. If they do not want to use it they can pass it on to family or friends. In March I will be doing a half page add in a monthly in the local ski resort that is full of large homes, second homes and retirees w/o mail boxes.

I just started with my Bandit Signs. I only put a few out. The town should be doing a clean up soon.
