GoDaddy. It was easy. They are National and well known. I lost my first site by allowing the company that built it also host it. They went bankrupt and shut the server down without notice. I have had no problems. Price is fair

I built and administer my site myself. Yahoo is the host. Good customer service but very rarely have had to call them. Fast load speed - that's really important for SEO!

I originally used iPage but later found it is not very good for businesses and SEO. I then switched to WordPress and so far I am very pleased. It is small business friendly, has lots of tools and updates quickly. I use Blue Host for my domain name.

Avoid any hosting companies owned by Endurance International Group (wikipedia link shows EIG list and addresses outages)
It should be noted that HostGator, JustHost, BlueHost, and HostMonster are all owned by the same company Endurance International Group (EIG). EIG web hosts are notorious for overselling and packing servers with tons of websites leading to poor and slow site performance.
EIG is basically an investment group that has tried to dominate web hosting by buying up formerly good hosting companies and then using their good reputation. I won't bore you with a list of links addressing EIG's problems....google it.
many of the review sites are actually created by EIG and all the rated sites are actually owned by EIG.
Server load is a huge issue...and on most of these EIG run hosts, you'll share a server with thousands...same with IP address. Another issue is that many so called "hosts" are actually resellers....they have no control of the server at all. Make a point to ask or investigate yourself.
As Doug pointed out, Knownhost is one of the best kept secrets in the Business. One of my servers is leased from them and they are top notch. They however don't sell shared hosting...just servers. The greatest part of managing your own server is that you can customize it and tweak it to fit your needs versus the way most shared servers are set up. Not everyone needs their own server and it can get a bit pricy....not to mention the learning curve needed to manage it.
The bottom line is that you get what you pay for. I've seen threads on other forums where people actually brag about how cheap their hosting is. If your business depends on the internet, if you get (or hope to) a lot of work from the internet, the cheapest is not how I would look at it.
Eric, I know you decided not to use my hosting, that's no problem...call me and I'd be happy to help you with your search for a good dependable host...or use my experience to look at their shared server loads/IP sharing.
Who do you guys use to host your site and why?
