I have a 4 GPM pump. It has a black release valve on the side, water is pouring out of it. Is that a uploader problem

Hey Art, a picture would help,..but it sounds like a thermal relief ?? If it's dumping water constantly it must be stuck or something.

I will get a pic later Jef. It has a black cap with a drain for water to come out.

Yea, that sounds like thermal relief,.. If you have a by-pass back into a tank you can remove it and replace it with a solid cap. There is a valve under the cap,.just so you know.

Not sure of how long your off the trigger,..But if you replace this cap but don't have a by-pass tank, you can also gain time by simply making the jumper hose from unloader to the water intake longer,..Just take a piece of hose and coil it so it doesn't take up a bunch of room. That extra volume will help your water cool before re-entering the pump. Gives you more time off the trigger without worrying about thermal issues.

How do I stop the water from come out the valve? Is it a heat thing or stuck? We are washing condo's so the machine is going all day.

It should only open up for a second,..just long enough to cycle cool water through the pump,..So,..if it's coming out constantly I'd say it's stuck or broke,.(Not sure what makes them work). There must be a seat in there somewhere,..take it off and examine it a little,..maybe theres a piece of something in it.

If your using it as you say,..I'd find a donor cap and not even mess with fixing it.

The water is flowing out under garden hose pressure when the machine is off.

Jeff is right in what it is and it needs to be replaced. I would just keep the ball valve open when not using until you can replace it. Russ or Paul can get you one pretty quick. Ive used mine for days before replacing it.

Your unloader could also be stuck keeping the pump engaged. The leaky relief valve could be just a symptom of the real problem. But if its flowing out while the machine is off then it may actually be a faulty relief valve. You might be able to pick one up a a local lawnmower repair shop.

Thanks Guys I just ordered the new by-pass valve. $15 bucks with shipping. I took the old one out and cleaned it. Hope it works one more day so I can finish the job.
