kicking around the idea of creating a new website. Wanted to overhaul my old one and make it sexier, but know that I can have some real negative impacts on my Google rankings if I change too much up at one time. Wanted some of the inter-web thingy experts on here to chime in on the pros and cons of having two separate websites for my business.

I had that...but I was told they compete with each other and not a good thing...I don't understand that thinking but can only trust the one advising me.

Make them as 2 separate branches, like 2 separate McDonalds. They can have the same name but have different addresses and phone number.

I have two sites. VestaWash.com and VestaWash.net One is my corporate address and the other is the address where my shop is. I also have two different phone numbers. I really don't know if it makes much difference. I'm in Delaware and 15 minutes from MD, PA and NJ so I wanted to see if one of the web sites would pull traffic better from out of state. Its all too freaking confusing.

Ray.
Talk to someone about linking two domains. You can do it and have two very different appearances, layout, and even target market through adwords and SEO.
You could even register another name and create a whole parallel branding should you think thats what you want now you have the factory etc.
I have Excess Cleaning and also registered the name Softwash Australia.I've got that parked for a little down the track.

I've been taught that if you duplicate content Google will know and will actually ding you for it. Make sure the content is somewhat different between the two.

This is a little off topic, but I have these web guys calling me all the time and they check my listing. They all can't figure out why I have 2 and 3 listings on the first page. I think its because my pages aren't Google verified and I don't use Google Analytics. Not sure, but something is working.
