A contractor of mine was attempting to clean aluminum siding on a house. He tried several different cleaning agents with his pressure washer to no avail. It was more than dirt. I believe it was oxidation like you see on aluminum gutters. I took Art's advise and tried Purple Power from Walmart. I sprayed it on, let it dwell for a few minutes and then wiped it off. The oxidation came right out. And mind you it was only 40 degrees out. I was a bit apprehensive as the directions warned it could damage painted and aluminum surfaces. I first did a small test spot before cleaning the entire surface. I went back the next day as well and it still looked great with no apparent damage to the paint. Another nice cleaner to have in your arsenal.
We keep purple power (as well as some others) on hand all the time and is our primary chemical for gutter brightening. Just keep in mind as the temperature goes up the product becomes more effective.

PP is good stuff, and really available too...no shipping! I agree with Hank, it does great on gutters too!

Butyl or monbutyl based products (Purple Power is one of them) do great on gutters. Very cost effective too.

No never. That would create a mess on so many levels. Keep with SH, water and your surfactant of choice.

I've decided to go with SH and Lauramine Oxide as our house wash.

Like Ted said butyl like products usually work but once the oxydation get too bad the powder coated aluminum usually needs to be painted with a good acrylic

Bought through Advance Auto you can get it for $19.00 a bucket to the door.. Use code: TRT30,..this gives you 30% with a $50.00 max savings. So I order 5 at a time to maximize savings. And anything over $75.00 is Free Shipping.

Yup, PP is good stuff. When I'm out of Agent Blue, its my go-to cleaner. Most every auto parts store will have it cash and carry over the counter for around 20-25 per 5'er

for gutters brightening. . What dilution to you use?
Jeff Wible said

Dilution of PP varies,..temperature,.what's on the gutters,..how old are the gutters,.cheap gutters vs quality gutters. In short,..gutters are evaluated case by case,..and takes time to be able to simply look at them and have an idea what you have.
Full strength sometimes,...But going 50/50 is a decent place to start in weather that is in the 70's to lower 80's and humid. When it starts to get hot,..like in the mid to upper 80's and higher,..1/3 will work in most cases.

Yesterday we cleaned oxidation off 15 year old vinyl siding with Spray 9. The stuff worked great. The top part is oxidized and the lower part is clean
