In a different thread, we were discussing naming a company. Tim Asselton alluded to this, but I thought I would expound on it. When You settle on a name, lock up your domain ASAP, and also LOCK UP other other similar domains. Otherwise competitors may swoop in and grab them and have them redirected to their web-site!

Here's an example of what I'm talking about. All of these direct back to my main web-sites. Some of those names are very similar to one of my low-ball hack, photo stealing, account hijacking competitors. They are now mine, lol
Oh, and let me clarify, Ray W. of Capital Roof Wash was NOT my intended target. Its a competitor who causes both of us problems.

Buy domains cheap and let them expire. Then they cost the competitor a bundle to buy them back from a reseller. Why waste good money renewing them year after year.

Doug can you explain the trademark process? I looked into this and it seemed like you had to jump through hoops and it wasn't cheap.

I certainly can't.....:}
I don't have the temperament for dealing with Government web sites. I used Trademark Plus to ease the tension and I must say I was impressed. You need to spell out your Trademark and I felt I did a good job.....until they sent me their altered version of what I wrote. They did an awesome job describing my logo (included in my Mark) and wording the whole thing.
I think the cost was like $79.00 for their fee and then the $2XX.00 government fee.
The only thing that suck is that they bombard you with emails trying to get you to sign up for their monitoring services. But even those taper off after a few weeks.
