Looks great!, the only problem is with out a UV protective coating it will grey again in as little as one season plus it will dry, cup and Crack quickly, a 2-4 year recoat maintenance program is a great way to ensure future work !

Thanks for the advice! What would be a good alternative to stain? Linseed oil?

I wouldn't use linseed oil, there are products that have high iron oxide pigments that protects from UV. I'm currently researching for a huge IPE, Ironwood decking and cedar siding on the water and while Im not endorsing anyone but Armstrong Clark is very good and duck back super deck which was just aquired by Sherwin Williams and there's one in Halifax.

I was actually just talking to the rep for Sherman Williams last week and it seems like a great product. I really want to get into cleaning cedar roofs but am trying to find the right mix to use can't decide between SH or a Percarbonate mix. Any suggestions for learning this?

Well SH breaks down the lignin and weakens the wood, percarbonate is safer but not as effective. There are many here that are experts but Bruce Sullivan almost exclusively does cedar roofing but he knows wood. Looks like pine, anyone recommending a product should ask the type of wood your train and use a "natural " color if that's what customer wants, will still darken but not more that a "wet look".

Sherwin-Williams carry's Rymar. It is an order item. Good stuff and last longer than most stuff. The trick to any deck finish is the more pigment the longer it lasts.
The only person I would consult with wood is David Hoover. He has been cleaning and finishing decks for many, many years. He didn't wake up one day and decide he would become an expert.

I use Armstrong Clark on my Cedar Deck. Every 2 years I hit it with a bleach wash and Britten it with o/x. Comes out great.

Armstong-Clark is the way to go. Their colors are great looking. You have to take their color sample on their web site with a grain of salt. Their Cedar Semi-Transparent isn't yellow looking. Least that is the way it looks on my computer. Sullivan is by far not a Cedar or wood expert! He says that Cedar shouldn't be sealed because it needs to breathe...lmao. Since when does staining wood not allow it to breathe. Maybe if you used an acrylic or elastomeric coating. There is only one reason he says this.... He doesn't want to have to stain the roofs for customers. So he comes up with this lie to tell them. It's either that or he is a complete idiot!
Just restored this beautiful cedar deck. It was over 2700sq ft of wrap around decking. Came out absolutely beautiful,
The homeowner wanted It clean so they could stain but we're so impressed with the cleaning they want to keep it natural.
