Any ideas on how to start and stop a booster pump motor with a remote?

Andy,.there are AC wireless remotes,.you just have to search for one with the correct amps. I'd think maybe one that operates a garage door could be used. I know they are also made for things like security gates. Here is one used for lamps.
I must plead ignorance. I'll study up on a pressure switch

Have you tried a pressure switch? They work as well. A good one will run you about 60 dollars.
In order to install a pressure switch you will need an isolator to keep the SH out of the switch. If you just install the switch it will fail soon.
Here is my idea and what I plan to do when I do the rebuild this winter. Once I can get some down time I plan to install the booster and proportioner. To keep the pump cool I am going to do a loop with a bunch of 5/8" hose in the bottom of the booster tank. My guess says this will cool the mix as it cycles through the cold water. I mentioned this to Ray and he thought it would work. What do you think?

Andy,...what didn't you like about the air system? Because a quality air pump like an All-Flo are the most resilient by far where reliability is concerned. They do take up space due to the compressor,.but what was your issue with an air system.
Once I learned how to properly plumb an air pump I am glad I didn't bail out on them,..because I was ready to quit using them as well,.but it was actually all my fault due to improper plumbing.

The main thing was the pumps going out. The room the air compressor took up and the noise the compressor made.

I'll stick with my $200 FatBoy, works fine for me.

Thats all Bruce Sullivan uses also. For a long time

How often did you air pump go out,.and what brand was it? An All-Flo will last 4-5 years of hard use.

The trick is to cut the relay off and add a solenoid to it

Run a hose off the bypass of the regulator to drain off the water when your not spraying. This will keep the pump from cycling to much and help the pump last longer. I have 3 years on the same pump. But I only use it for rinsing.

For just pure spraying power the Fat Boy I'm sure is equal to an All-Flo,..or at least they are close. But aside from the resiliency of the Materials used in an All-Flo,.. the one determining factor for me is this:,..it is nice to be able to use even the smallest nozzle when needed. Some may not care about that and don't need that,..but I like to be able to dial down the flow with a simple nozzle. I hear to much bad stuff about the accumulators to consider them an option.

Jeff, it's good to see you bring up the accumulator. I wonder if I am the only one who has taken one apart hoping to replace the diaphragm only to find it had rotted through with SH and no parts are available. With just a turn of the pressure switch set screw on the FatBoy it will dial in everything and stop the chatter of the relay or solenoid. Accumulators are a waste of money and just add one more thing to the maintenance list.

I also agree that those all flo pumps are a great long lasting pump. The down side is the compressor. The room they take up is just to much and it's just another piece of equipment that needs to be maintained. We use the 5850s and the Versa jet 6gpm pumps. The versa jet can be rebuilt on the job for 40 bucks.
Also when you have employees the less they have to do the better off we are. If a 12volt pump goes down they either switch it or rebuild it. When the compressor goes down its a whole other ball game. And if you can't get it going again then your screwed.

Hey Brett,..I think I've read about others taking accumulators apart,.if nothing else,..to at least see what they look like inside. But alot of complaints about them,..not to mention they are pressurized,.and if they get brittle enough from SH,.maybe they could also explode enough to give some one a good soaking of SH?
Yes,..compressors are another piece of equipment that needs maintained,.but not much. A good quality compressor will be trouble free, .oil and gas for the most part,.. and crack the ball valve to blow the water out of the tank. Not many wear parts on a compressor. I've had mine now for about 8 years I suppose and have really done nothing but paint it every year to pretty it up. Replaced the belt and air intake filter once,.,..just a Winter thing. I don't think compressors are hard to keep going.
But they do take up room,..and a good one is in the $900.00 range.
Mine is also inside a trailer,.so it's not exposed to the elements,..maybe that makes a difference.
I see advantages in the 12V also.

I have both. For me I just prefer the peace and quiet of a 12 volt. I think many of my customers do to. I guess there is positives and negatives for both.

It's everything but peace and quiet when I'm on a roof job,..Compressor running,..PW running to keep things wet,..lots of noise,Ha,Ha,..
I really don't think customers care,.when they call the guy in to clean the roof or wash the house or mow the grass or whatever,..the noise from having the work done is a moot point.

Going to try this
Andy that will work but a pressure switch will actually work better and you won't have to carry a remote around with you.
