I dont have much advice to contribute here yet, so here's a little heads up that might help someone. My Walmart has some Avia's on clearance for $5.
I like bringing an extra pair of shoes and socks along in case my feet get wet... plus with the chemicals we use while out in the sun all day, it doesnt take long to go through shoes, so i like stocking up on cheap deals. $5 is about as cheap as it gets. I got two pair, and they're really not that bad. Maybe not the best shoe in the world... but hey, it's $5. hah .
They also had some for $3!

My feet are a big investment on my body they only see the best! Cheap here is not a good thing.

I've gotta go waterproof. I hate having wet feet. I haven't found the ones I want to stick with yet, but they've got to be non-insulated and waterproof.

I bought a pair of Bogs last year on Art's suggestion, ended up wearing the Sketchers duck boots until they started leaking. Now I'm switching between the bogs and a pair of XtraTuf Ankle deck boots. I still want a pair that lace up again, because I like the ankle support on the roof.

Mucks are great on the ground and if you have a wide foot. I had to add expensive inserts since I have narrow feet. If I do not have the correct width, I'm done by 12:00. Mucks suck on any roof! I still think for the money and grip, shoes for crews. Bringing an extra pair to change in to is not a bad idea for the ride home.

Im not too picky on shoes, never really had a problem even with cheap ones.
Last winter i side by side tried on Mucks against a similar pair of Itasca neoprene boots at TSC. The Itasca's felt just as good and were $30 cheaper or so, but they only lasted about 6 months before the rubber split. Next boots will either be Mucks mid high chore boots or these bullfrog boots from shoes for crews.

Boggs are good boots but I find they wear out quick so this year I went to the Mucks low cut and they have a better sole and heal on them. They seem to be a better shoe now
these are INCREDIBLE for metal roofs and slick kitchen floors, every truck in the fleet is equipped with a pair now. They are hot though! Basically a waterproof croc with a slip-proof sole.

My last post was aimed at Brian and Steve.
I used shoes for crews and if I recall they fell apart in a few weeks. I had been using big ole mud boots but they are so uncomfortable for me.

yeah, the sun is bad on this material, so never store them outside. Also, we only put them on for a specific purpose (i.e walking a metal roof), and change out when we come down.

I just ordered the 12" xtratuffs, as for the pair I have on my feet my only complaint is the cotton trim on the upper ankle rim got heavy doses of SH when I first got them so they shredded off but supprisingly it did not effect the exposed stitching or neoprene
Very supportive up to the ankle
I find myself tossing these shoes on even when I'm not on the job, they're my goto sneakers

Hey, I love my dunlop volleys. They are all cotton and have a unique sole that is so good for grip. All our roofers etc wear them. Below is a link to what the sole looks like. http://www.m3architecture.com/projects/rod-laver-footbridge/
They are cheap, get wet but don't smell and comfy as we do a lot metal and cement tile roofs down here. Cheers.

I ordered some of those crews for shoes Bullfrogs... man they are big. 12's are often too snug on me, so i went 13 and they are really big. They have an awesome return policy though... 60 days no questions asked free return shipping. I think im just going to go ahead and swap for 12's though.

I went with a cotton shoe one time. They started to fall apart real soon. Even mild house wash solution will start to eat them fast.
I started using Shoes For Crews years ago. The shoes hold up well when you consider what they are put through. The do not slip and do well on roofs. In the event they really need boots they have rubber boots on the truck. SFC discontinued the shoe we use to get and replaced it with the Condor.

I think im going to order some of these xtratuf deck boots for summer wear... they have really good reviews.

They are ugly, but they do work. They also need insoles since they are thin and there's not much to them. And of course, NO ankle support.
And don't pass this photo around since I'm under contract as a leg model.
