Well just as with many other regions, I have certainly noticed an increase in competition. I lost another job today. I bid $544 and lost it to a competitor for a mere $275. And yes that is for the entire roof. I guess it's a race to the bottom for these guys!

Don't move to NJ, this is typical here. A lot of companies sell on price only and have no concept of a sales cycle or what it is to maintain and retain a customer. Some customers don't care and just want price, but they really aren't my customers. I hear the same old idiotic excuse from guys who say, well it is all based on what you need to make and everyone is different. That is a load of crap! Once you are at the bottom and you think that is all you need to make, you just sold yourself short and will have a difficult time bringing them up. Anyone can sell on price, but to actually sell is something different. Sell yourself, your company, your service, your process, etc... Most of the people who do this will wonder why they never grow their business or only grow in very little increments every 5 years. The dictionary has a definition for this....it is called insanity.

Exactly. I have been undersold( low price) by alot of my competition. I just continue to keep selling us not price. I am usually middle of the road to highest price.
I have seen the prices drop dramatically over the last 5 yr or so.

Since our days at the other forum I remember you telling me to sell on what we do and not get locked up in a price battle to lower my prices. I have raised my prices and DO NOT care about tire kickers or those looking for the lowest bid. I'll let those who do not do what we do have them and then have a call back from the low bid tire kicker! We have expenses and if you are completely legit, those expenses are not cheap. It's funny (not really) that these "customers" never take a job for the lowest pay!

John nailed it. For me, I see low ball numbers all the time. I see stupid math by my competition. Low pricing has it's place....just no where near me.

Seems to be all over the world.
We sell our services and our track record not our price. We work with our biggest competitors in town and share some bigger jobs.
It works well, praise each others work and are seen to be the most profession businesses so we get the better and bigger jobs over the cheap and nasty competitors.
