I just recently "Googled my Business" and I have to say I'm pretty psyched about it. I have already showed up #1 on some of my keyword searches and my website comes up on the first page just behind home advisor. I did hire someone for some SEO just last week. I only have one review so far on the Google my business, but I wasn't sure if I should email my customers now to ask for them to leave a review from this last season or wait until the season starts. I just don't want people or Google to think that these are BS reviews because they would be coming in during the off season. What your thoughts guys?

Do a cloaked search and have someone do a search from their computer not in your home and see what their results are. If they are the same, Great!
Send only a few customers emails asking for reviews. You may or may not get them. If you get reviews, wait a few weeks and ask a few more. If you don't get any within a few days then send to the other customers.
Google has no clue what season you have so don't worry about that.

I know Hank has a few sites he uses to hide the IP address so you can get an accurate search. Your own computer or cell phone isn't and accurate search because your phone builds up a memory. Back in the day we were told to go to the local town library and use there computer and check that specific town. But try to ask a friend or relative to help search for you. If there device hasn't been used to search for you , that device will give you an accurate search

I was also told to build reviews slow and steady because Google will Black flag you if you try to manipulate your reviews
That is nice to see Brian. It looks like Steve is doing well!

Brett and Brian, thanks a lot guys for the help and the compliment. I'm happy it has happened so quickly considering that the URL is only about a month old because of the business name change. I'm going to do what you said about just asking a few people every couple of weeks for the Google reviews. There's no guarantee that they will leave one anyways.

I lost my guy that was maintaining my website and so I'm shopping around. I spoke with Chris Lonergan at Footbridge Media the other day. I understand their contractor maintenance program is around $180 per month. I believe some of the NSWA brethren use them. I currently use WordPress. Chris explained they would rebuild my site their way using HTML coding. Even though his reasoning sounding legitimate, I hope it's not so one would be locked in or stuck with them after the conversion. Any thoughts? Are they a good deal with good service and all?

I'm with Footbridge Media and I have been happy with them. If you want access to your site for maintenance or just being able to add to it then i wouldn't suggest Footbridge. Footbridge handles every thing for me. I don't want access or need access to my site and i have no interest in maintaining it. I'm worth way more on the sales end of business or on the end of the gun.

Dave,
Like others here I've been using Footbridge since 2013 and never had a regret. I've ranked number one since the get go. We dominate our service area in both residential and commercial work.

Somethings I've learned about reviews. As you add reviews make sure they have the full name and town of your customer. It adds credibility to the review over just initials. Don't be afraid to share those reviews on industry related sites through Google+. Do you have a facebook page? Don't be afraid to use reviews from facebook and Angie's list as well on your site. Off season reviews is not uncommon.
Try using an incognito window from your computer to see where you are ranking. It should be in the top right hand corner where the three bullets are.
Use the NSWA promotional posts and this will assist you in ranking.

Brian, I actually made it on WIX.com. I was tired of trying to get my old website designer to add things for me and he wouldn't get back to me. It took me a bit to figure it out, but now I can edit it when I want without being a programmer.

So I just sent out the google link to all of our past clients, we are getting new reviews everyday. Do you think Google thinks it is false reviews? None of them are contractors and they are all in our service area.

You don't want to get to many reviews in one day. Google will not post them and treat them like spam

Happy for the progress you have made! I'm working with Foot Bridge now and taking down all this great information. I would not be making this step without the help I've got along the way with the good advice that I received from Good Guys here at NSWA!!

I really appreciate the guys here on the NSWA that have taken the time out of their busy days to share their opinions and thoughts on things and especially the ones that have personally reached out to help. These things are invaluable and hard to find. Now its just a matter of implementing them and down the road paying it forward.
