WARNING, WARNING!!! Don’t be an idiot like me. (backstory too long) but suffice it to say if you or your crew use any pressure washers for your business, we rinse with them usually with a soft wash 3-banger attached to the pw gun but every now and then we put in a white 40 degree pw tip. As we tire of dealing with the stiff penalty hose I wanted to order a (swivel) and I wanted it now, as in yesterday. Turns out the only swivel Amazon could get me that quickly was one rated at 3000psi. Since we typically run our 4400 psi pressure washer below 3000 psi, I incorrectly assumed this purchase would be ok (thinking most things are designed beyond what their rating say?)?. DON’T DO IT , DON’T DO IT!!! As I was walking by, behind the gun operator when HOLY MOTHER OF GOD, the swivel split apart and with the force of a baseball bat swing, the broken remainder of swivel plus a quick-disconnect hit me perfectly square on my bat and balls! O M G it hurt so much I saw stars for fifteen minutes, and was afraid to look in my pants, fearing the worst. Tough little pecker he is. I am fine now but I don’t want this to happen to any of you.NEVER EVER GO ON THE CHEAP WITH THESE KINDS OF HIGH PRESSURE PARTS!!! Don’t be an impatient idiot like me.Stay safe everyone.

I used to buy the brass swivels to put between the gun and hose. I would get about 4 to 6 months out of them and they exploded like what you mentioned. I hoped the 2nd one would not do that but it did also explode.
After that I only have been buying the mosmatic stainless steel swivels and when they start leaking I replace them. I don't know if they will explode or not but I always keep a couple spares in the tool box for when they start leaking.
Glad you did not seriously get hurt from the exploding swivel, that really sucks.

Been doing this for 30 years and never used a swivel. Never seen a need for it.

Old thread but,....I had to respond to Mr. Hoover,....The HP swivels make a HUGE difference in how the hose and trigger work together. Without the swivel every little movement of the trigger is turning the hose also,..whereas,..with the swivel it is relieving alot of hose movement. The HP hose is heavy enough,..and it fighting back with every movement makes it much worse. I think it helps with hose twist as well.
Sure,..you can do it without the swivel,..I did it for years,...but once I used a HP swivel,..I never looked back.
Also,..never had one explode,..the Mosmatic swivels are the best I've ever used,...and the ones that did go bad,..just started leaking.

I couldn't agree more Jeff. Once I put the first one on, we have never been without. There are always spares because it will fail, one day!

Supposed to be a way to stop the leaking....someone post a video a few years back on taking one apart and adjusting an Allen screw. I could not live without my Mosmatic hose and Gun swivels.

Speaking of swivels, I know I've posted this before over the years,..but for hose reel swivels, the purpose made hose reel swivels are not needed. For years I have been using your basic every day 3/8" coupler,..Male on the reel and female on the jumper hose.
On the end of the jumper hose, attach a 90 degree elbow and then attach the female coupler,..and plug it on to the reel. I always add some grease,..and use good VITON o-rings. I only had to change one O-ring last season. The reel will freely wheel when you are setting up,...I never really have to pull more hose when I'm powered up,...I pull what I know I need,..which is all of it 90% of the time. Not only are these "Swivels" cheaper but also very easy to field repair.
