Yes they should ! In Suffolk County NY if you spray Bleach " Clorox" and Soap you don't need one. If you use Chemicals you do. 15% Chlorine Is a Chemical, just like F9 would be a Chemical.

Mike you bitch about the low ball hacks all the time. A license helps weed them out. Its a good thing! Costs me $200 a year and well worth it. My License is so old I didn't even have to take the test. Not that there is anything in the test that is difficult. Just Contract wording and some other simple stuff. I'm pushing for it here, but not getting anywhere.

Well put Art! So many doing this work, know everything. I'm kinda with Mike, licenses are basically a joke and a way for local n state governments to get more money.
I can't see what was posted because it opens nothing. How about a good link.

I'm on both sides with this. A "license" would raise the barrier to entry and keep many from starting up or doing this as a part time gig or sidework. Let's face it most of us are not concerned with other businesses entering our area if they are legit and pricing appropriately.
Most of any industries issues are w those who are not running a legit business, not following rules and charging significantly less amounts then needed to sustain a profitable business.
Licensing is one small part in regulating the amount of people doing this for a few extra bucks.
Heres the issue. Licensing only works if it is regulated and enforced and unfortunately like Bret said licensing has become a money grab for corrupt govts. They have no intent to regulate and enforce their only goal is to increase revenue. In my area the tests for basic licensing have nothing to do with your trade or skill but more on how your going to pay your taxes and not RIP the customer off. Every once in a while they will conduct a public sting which always winds up on tv and puts homeowners at ease and fear into those not complying. This once every few years.
With the way things are (and I doubt they will ever change) I say no to licensing. I dont see any positive to our industry wo enforcement, just another expense that will grow every year and keep bleeding us dry.

A home improvement licenses are $25. a year up here. They do check if you have insurance first and monitor it for cancellations. For all the HOA work you must have it. Big deal.

Technically, that is not for roof cleaning and since SH falls under insecticides with EPA, who knows what could/would happen. Get a bunch of government idiots together and it could really screw up the industry as a whole. They never have any thoughts or concerns for business owners and their employees, just regulation and fees!

Yes we have a general contractors license too. So yes we are licensed and that part should be mandatory as well. But once you start putting other licenses into play and government regs into play it will only make it more difficult for us as legitimate contractors.

No, It will be as good as those so called certifications that have no merit and are not regulated. Even if they are, its just a revenue stream. no one will check your license.
