Long time no post...sorry about that, but saw this article and thought about the NSWA. Turns out the Brick Industry association (Brick's version of ARMA) basically recommends softwashing brick!

I'm glad you found that document Ray. Even though it wasn't good enough for the No. VA architect, I can see it helping in many other places.
