I buy 29% Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. About $100.00 5 gallon to the door. Cut it three times and now you have 15 gallons of excellent soap,..for roofs or houses. I use TSP in my roof mix, but I will add some SLS for cling if need be. When you get SLS it will be almost a solid,..about like lard,...especially in the colder temps,....but when it's cut properly it makes an awesome thick,..pure white clear liquid soap,..and is compatible with sodium hypo.

PS,..If you like thick soap,..you can still cut it 3 times and then add some salt to thicken it back up. It's a trick soap companies use to make you think you're getting ultra concentrated.

This stuff will seem thin when mixed into 1/3's,..but being thick has nothing to do with it's ability to make soapy soap.

Bought on ebay from "The Chemistry Connection",..the user name is Arkie-Annie

I ordered a gallon of Sodium Lauryl Sulfate Jeff. I will do some testing over the winter with it. I think my house washing is done for the year. So I will have to wait till spring to try it.

Hey Art,..I've added powdered Arm and Hammer laundry soap to the mix as well,..to boost cleaning power,...talk about sticky thick soap,HA,HA,...yea,..gotta play with it to find what you're happy with. I like to play with soaps and such,..but when it comes down to it with most of this stuff,..is keep it simple!

I found out about the salt trick by accident,..I added sodium hydroxide to the SLS to make an all in one soap,...I started stirring and it started getting thick like you wouldn't believe,Ha,Ha,..thought I ruined the whole bucket,..did some research and found out about the salt thing. I still add hydroxide to my house wash mix sometimes if I have alot of bug crap to deal with.

Typically though I mix:
2 gallons 12.5%
3 gallons water
2 cups 9% SLS

Downstreamed

Jeff

My order should be here this week. I may get one last chance to try it before the year is done.

Got the gallon of 29% Sodium Lauryl Sulfate Today. That stuff is as thick as butter. I may have to cut the jug open to get it out.

SLS is a fine soap and will make a thick mix for soaping roofs,.but I now don't like it as well in my house wash mix. I switched to Lauramine Oxide as my overall soap. The old Ammonyx Lo,..but not watered down buy a vendor selling it as a roof soap.

SLS was to unstable for my liking,.. Like I mentioned above,..it was really susceptible to thickening up as soon as it was added to "Sodium ANYTHING", HA,HA... Which is good I suppose for a roof mix,..but I didn't like the unstable property of it.

And the mix I used for a basic house wash has changed:

It is now (5) Gallons 12.5% and (1) cup of Lauramine Oxide,..Down streamed. Maybe I'm not as patient as I use to be,Ha,Ha,..

Jeff if you can Find Pinallen Max in your area, try it. http://www.pinalen.com/pinalen-lavander-798.html This is the only stuff I use for house washing. Its great on window and the homeowner love the smell and its cheap. Like $6 for 172 LT. I get it at HD, Target, Walmart and Dollar stores have it.

I learned of Pinalen Max through Art, I found it on Walmart's online store, as my local Walmarts don't carry it in their stores, however I ordered it online it was I think $4.98. The most you can order is (4)- 172 oz bottles at a time but they do allow you  to place a double or triple order of 4 at a time. They ship to the store free and fast. Just my $.02

Art I know you  are a fan on Pinellas Max  whatever but I have a question.

It's main ingredients are alcohol based and hydroxide, alcohol killing mix and hydroxide a asphalt screwing up degreaser.

Are you using it with S/H?

Yes it has some Alcohol in it and I have Never had a problem with it on Asphalt. I have been using it for house washing for the past 4 years. It doesn't have time to kill the mix  because I only use it for down streaming! Plus some guys here add Hydroxide to heat there mix in the winter to clean roofs.
