I just bought a Sherlock Pole at HD. I figure if I keep the latch oiled it will last the season

Eventually the locking mechanism will no longer catch on the pole. It will feel as though it's locked until you stretch it all the way out or start scrubbing a gutter. Then down a she comes. We tried those and SW pin locks years ago before switching back to the Mr Long arm screw type.

Mr Long Arm is the most affordable and best bang for the buck. Those red plastic ferrels crap out but you can call MLA and they will sell you a bunch cheap.

We use the 20" Aluminum extention poles from HD. They are like 40 buck and take a beating.
