hi guys need a bit advice on a PW pump i have a yanmar diesel pump 10hp with a 3 gpm pump 200 bar  ( 15ltr/min) cold water PW

whats the biggest pump a can put on this yanmar diesel engine its a gearbox pump at present but could be a shaft driven pump

 i have been told 

it is a 1" diameter shaft that drives the pump so what pumps would use recommend i try 

I am intending on sending the bypass back to the buffer tank   

Would a double water feed help my GPM problem plus would taking a double feed off the out side off the pump  then Y branching it back to single hose line then  to the  whirl away cleaner .

Or sell it and buy a honda ..??

This is a question for pwi. I'm sure Russ and the boys could answer. I believe you can put on a higher gpm pump at the cost of psi. There's a math formula that can figure out what gpm's or psi you can get from a certain amount of horsepower. For instance: everyone is familiar with Honda's 13hp motor. From 13 hp you can get (on average) 3500psi at 4 gallons per minute. Raise it to 5.5 gpm and the max is 2500. At 8gmp you can only get 1800psi max. If you adjust the unloader for a higher psi the motor will clearly struggle.

I recently hooked up a Honda 13hp at 8gpm. I am impressed with the rinsing capabilities. The highly volume of water clearly compensates for any loss of psi.

I am going to try a double feed for water supply to pump to see if that makes any difference to the output.

I am starting to think the whirl away's nozzles are not the size my machine needs they are 00.25
is there a smaller size nozzle to increase the pressure I could put in the whirl away rotary cleaner ??

I may just sell the diesel washer and get a Honda washer if I can.

Unless you're using very small diameter hose,.you won't get more water volume by adding more intake flow. Even on a small pump using 1 inch feed line will be PLENTY of flow. If the pump is 3 GPM that is what you'll get. No need for dual feed until you get to 8 GPM, even then some guys don't run dual feed.

Yes,..you can replace the nozzles on the spray bar of the surface cleaner,..mine is a Mosmatic and the nozzles are 1/8". Then basically divide your GPM by number of nozzles and go with the available size on the larger side of the equation.

That said,..you won't see any real performance from a surface cleaner with only 3 GPM.

hi lads
A did a pressure test on the washer and noticed it dropped pressure and was pulsing the line so i removed the off loader valve and the seals are bust so that been why its taken a bit longer on driveways lately .
i have found a cat pump 4 gpm online £200 +honda gx engine £350 e bay
thats getting orderd next wash
new off loader valve £45 with free delivery get this old diesel reaking it up again before a sell it ,

was getting pulsing through the hose i stripped the pumps six valves out and one had a little piece of plastic in it , no pulsing now and its doing its work like a new washer replaced the gearbox seal plus large o ring as well had a small leak by pass back to buffer tank happy with the washer now , forum info helps again ,got a few filters coming for the washer .keep it healthy
