My web guy is now telling me that Google is penalizing sites that have city pages in them......of course shortly after I have him put a bunch into my site.
Are any of you with city pages seeing your rankings go down, or has your web guy mentioned it to you as well?
Don't really want to take them down. Even if I get hurt in the rankings a little, don't they still help when someone is looking and uses their city in the keyword search?
I asked my web designer the same thing as I heard the recently revised Google search algorithm was revised. She explained that city pages can hurt you if they are duplicates just repeating the same content. To avoid that, you need to add content relevant to the specific city such as landmarks and points of interest. I was going to have some city pages built but never got around to it.

I have like 20 pages and wouldn't be able to come with enough unique material without repeating myself. I use a template for each city. The only thing different on each page is the city name and zip codes. So do you think if I kept the template and then added specific info about each city, that would be going in the right direction?
