I have decided to try out the home show booth avenue. I have never been interested in doing home show venue but I have been to home shows and have never seen another company that offers any exterior cleaning. We're scheduled to do 3 home shows starting in the beginning of March . Im not putting any expectations on it and if I build awareness and generate future estimates that would be great.

I went to home show last year , and there is only one company offering exterior cleaning. Everyone knows them for there powerwashing business which they are doing here. Two guys running southern and central Maine. I believe this will drum up business for sure going to this show. Not exactly on numbers but the show here brought many visitor with this two day event.

This is what I found Brian. I haven't checked them out. I'll leave that up to Tayib.

There is not many around here for sure. The one company , I mentioned advertises roof and house washes using a the softwash process on there web site. I have seen a few box trucks but not sure what they are specializing in. No ladders or hose ports on them. I,ll do some more investigating. Brain your new truck setup rocks! I wonder if you miss the van at all.

We've done them in past. Weather is a huge factor on the traffic. If you tracked results if you paid someone to work booth, set-up, cost of sale, it might be a break even. Most people that come to the shows are just looking for something to do, and it seems they walk looking straight ahead. You have say hello!, get them to look at you and then say something like "We clean roofs and siding without a pressure washer" They will either keep walking or ask how. I don't give out pens or any of that stuff, just a bowl for hard candy. You never know what you will find. I just think I would get better results if I cold called on realtors or other stuff.

I hear of mixed results on trade shows. I personally have not had good results with trade shows in my market area. I attended a Home Owners Association show and a Home trade show. Both are big well known shows. Both were a bust and did not even break even. I was the only roof cleaner at one and one of only two roof cleaners at the other. I did get a lot of compliments on our display. And yes we aggressively pulled people in as they walked by. I even went to a seminar given by a well known trade show coordinator to learn the dos and don'ts before attending the shows.

Some of the people at the last trade show had us laughing. Some would bring out their family with all the kids equipped with bags. They would have the kids load up their bags with goodies as if they were trick or treating! Other people would walk down the isles with their heads down to not make eye contact but scanning the tables for goods to grab. Quite a few people we talked with said they were not interested because they were from out of town and here vacationing. Who plans to go to a trade show on vacation!!!

I say everyone should try a trade show once in their market area. It it pulls in business great. If not, well at least you tried.

Pretty much the same here Tim. I have two locations on two different sides of the mountain and completely different people. One town is crazy expensive to live in (UVA) and a different mindset than this side with much more rural farm land.

We have never lost but mostly break even and it is grueling. I would much rather clean roofs for those two days, not to mention the preparation, set up, take down and putting it all away. Last year was in the rural area and it was break even and requires much more travel than the the other due to the geography.

I honestly think most people go to see how many trinkets they can get for free. Junk! I'm still on the fence as to whether we will do at least one this year. With my new admin asst. it would go much better because I would have some good help with a great people person.

I'm not putting any expectations on the home show at all. I live in the real world and not fantasy land. I just feel it is time to try one and not just one but i will do 3 home shows this year. I tried a big EDDM mailing a few years ago and it didn't change my gross sales at all. I also did Google ad words a few years ago and that didn't help. But this year i did a small EDDM mailing in the spring and it grossed over 30K. I also did a small Google ad words add in July and August which more than doubled my gross for both months. If i didn't go back and try advertising i did in the past then my gross yearly sales would have stayed the same. So if the home shows don't do well I will not take it as a failure and revisit it the next year. I'm also doing home shows in the off season so it will not interfere with my season and besides i don't have a new rig to build this year and i need something to do( No one has invited me to help with there new builds) ..... No Pat i will not help you with a new build.
