News Flash! Additive for roof soap!

For years, Art and I have been using unapproved soap for roof cleaning and house washes. We have been told our insurance could be canceled and we could get sued for not using "Industry" soap.

What we have done is save a ton of money over the years buying soap locally. Zero shipping! Art uses Gain, I prefer Arm & Hammer ($17.00 for 2 gals).
I have been working with local suppliers for years on an additive to add to the soap tank (I don't have formulas for batch mixing). We finally got some sticky stuff to make the soap stick even better, only adding around 1.5 cups per gallon. I'm willing to send anyone interested a sample, at no cost. I'll add a video tomorrow.

If I can get this off the ground (I'm not in the industry clique) I will sell it to all NSWA members at cost + shipping.

Hey Brett,..good to see you always working to make things better! Only assuming you use the same soap tank for roof cleaning and house washing? If so,..how is this making the soap for rinsing of glass? Extra sticky could mean more rinsing to get glass "acceptable",...Or maybe you just add it when you're doing a roof and then add more regular soap afterwards?

*Industry specific soaps,..those clowns pushing that narrative are dimwits. Soap is soap,..most,..if not all have ingredients that are very acceptable to our industry. I guarantee you alot of these people pushing industry standard soap are using the container only,..and filling it with grocery store soaps. Years ago,the "industry standard" was Dawn,....

We use separate tanks for Arm & Hammer and Pinalen. We put EBC glide in the house wash tank and the additive in the roof tank. If we didn't have separate tanks I'm not sure what I would do.

Well aren't you two just so special,..Ha, Ha,...Never knew people used two separate tanks,.(soaps) for roofs and houses. I just thought you adjusted the amount. Guess I'm behind the times,...

Brett,..reading about the the EBC Glide,..does that aid in rinsing windows? And is that why you use it in your mix?

Yes, we add glide to our HW tank. It doesn't take much and has really helped with the dreaded window call back. I think we are adding 1/2 cup per two gallons. I'll check on the amount and if I'm wrong will let you know.

If you are using mixing valves it is important to have two tanks. It sure makes life easier this way. I think all your house washes are DS. I'm not sure what you are doing for roofs.

Hey Brett,..if you remember,..I use a modified DS unit. I use what I refer to as a "mini-prop" (Utilizing 1/4" valves),..it uses the same principal as the proportioning valves you guys use for application,..except mine goes through the 12v/remote/ solenoid/injector. Soap and SH mix from separate tanks,..and the 12V force feeds the injector,...this is needed to overcome the 10 GPM dilution issue you would have without the 12V pump.....I use the same soap tank for roof cleaning as the house wash soap. Just plumbed in. I use the "regular" proportioning valve for my roof rig which is an All-Flo air unit.

Resize that picture if you can Art?

The valve on the right looking down goes to the soap,..the valve on the left is a three way valve,..and facing the way it is here goes to water supply for rinsing everything out. Turned the other way it goes to the SH.

There is a metering needle valve in the soap line,..that way I can set it and forget it,...I just turn the ball valve full on and it's already adjusted.

Also,.that is a 5850 5 GPM pump,..Ha, Ha,..throttled down with the use of 3/8" hose,..but the house wash mix is really strong,..I actually use 6% in my main tank now,..because it MAKES me more frugal.  If it was 12% the mix would be too strong for house washing.

Another thing in this picture is the 3/8" ball valve. That is used as my "easy start" valve,..start the engine without the unloader "loading" up. When I'm ready to wind up my hose,..I keep the engine running for additional amps going to the electric reel,...and I open the valve to relieve pressure and allows easy and fast winding of the hose.

Brett, your adding 1.5 cups of this additive to the soap already in your soap tank? How does it mix? Does it stay mixed or does it settle after some time?

Also is this the arm and hammer you use? Any particular scent?

We add it at the shop so it fully mixes as they get to the job. It never separates. The A&H we use is just standard, no scents. Maybe Oxi. It's the only one Costco stocks.
