Paver sealing can have several potential drawbacks or negative aspects, including:

  1. Slippery surfaces: Sealed pavers can become slippery when wet, which can be dangerous, especially in high-traffic areas or areas with a lot of foot traffic.

  2. Discoloration and yellowing: Some sealants may discolor over time or turn yellow, which can affect the appearance of your pavers and make them look less attractive.

  3. Trapped moisture: If moisture gets trapped underneath the sealant, it can lead to mold and mildew growth, which can be difficult to remove and may cause health problems.

  4. Limited permeability: Some sealants can limit the permeability of pavers, preventing water from draining properly and potentially causing flooding or other issues.

  5. Maintenance requirements: Sealed pavers require regular maintenance, including cleaning and resealing, to keep them looking their best, which can be time-consuming and costly.

  6. Environmental impact: Sealants can have negative environmental impacts, especially if they contain harmful chemicals or are not disposed of properly.

Overall, paver sealing can be beneficial for protecting your pavers and extending their lifespan, but it is important to weigh the potential negative aspects before deciding to seal your pavers.

I agree with this post Admin. I see so many botched sealer jobs or even ones that are not 100% clean before they seal them and look terrible afterwards.

I've yet to see a side by side comparison of pavers that were sealed and pavers not sealed to see if their is actually any benefits

It is unfortunate but true that some paver sealing contractors may not clean the pavers correctly before sealing them, which can lead to the trapping of black mold or other types of mold under the sealer. This can be a serious issue, as the mold can continue to grow and spread, potentially causing damage to the pavers and even creating health problems for those exposed to it.

To avoid this issue, it is important to choose a reputable and experienced paver sealing contractor who follows best practices when it comes to cleaning and preparing the surface before applying the sealer. This may include pressure washing the pavers to remove any dirt, debris, or mold, as well as ensuring that the surface is completely dry before applying the sealer.

Before hiring a contractor, it is also a good idea to ask for references or reviews from previous customers and to inquire about their experience and training in the field. Additionally, be sure to ask about the specific products and methods they use for cleaning and sealing, and make sure that they are using high-quality, professional-grade materials.

Overall, it is important to do your due diligence when choosing a paver sealing contractor to ensure that they are providing quality services and taking the necessary steps to prevent the growth of mold or other issues under the sealer.
