1/2" hose with a Delavan 5850

I switched from a 5/8" to 1/2" ID braided hose this year. I seem to have lost a small amount of distance and I'm pretty sure it's the inside diameter of the hose but I also added 25 addition feet. I used to run with 200' now I have 225. (no couplers in between). Anyone who uses 1/2" ID hose, I was just looking to see what pump your using and what kind of distance.

I have always used 1/2 inch hose and use the 5850. I have 200'of line but have an additional seperate 60'that i can add on if needed. When things get tough...distance from take and height on the ladder the fatboy has never let me down. If your using 12v delvans you need a fatboy for two reasons. Distance and incase the 5850 breaks down on you. The fatboy can do the work of the 5850 and also give you extra when needed...granted you use more solution with the fatboy. If I was just starting out I would get a fatboy first for those reasons alone.

We never use a 1/2 inch always a 5/8. I think bigger is always better.

I ditched the heavy 5/8" hose two seasons ago. I'm currently running a 5850 with 1/2" kuri tec. With a 3/4" feed line and 300' of 1/2" hose, I'm getting 39' of distance.

We use 200' of 1/2" through a 5850. I had a 5850 last me 2 years. Some have crapped out after 5 minutes.

5850 with 250 feet of 1/2" kuri tech, Works great. About 39 feet. I like my fatboy too. I got a diaphragm pump (one that Chris recommended) to try it out. It's fine but only went 35 feet.

300' of 1/2" poly braid hose using the Flojet Pentaflex pump. I get roughly 40' of distance if I need it spraying with 0020, my main nozzle is 1520. No cycling issues with the Pentaflex and I am not using the accumulator tank.

Barry  how long have you been using that Pentaflex, i run Fatboys and 5850 and use 3/4 hose, i will drop down to 5/8 when I wear this hose out, but curious how how that pentaflex is holding up

David - I have been using the Pentaflex five days a week since March with no issues or problems. I use it as my main spray pump and transfer pump, so it's getting quite a bit of use. We do rinse after every job all the time, so I'm sure that helps tremendously. I have always used the Fat Boys but I like the Pentaflex better because I can reduce the tip size without any worries of cycling or burning up the pump.

Awesome getting 39-40' with 5850. I started out with fatboys. I was disappointed with something always failing. I went with air pumps. Good pressure, heavy hose.
I may have more volume but I doubt I beat those distances.
Are all 5850 the same GPM or do they vary?

Agreed, we use 1/2 with pentaflex as well with #20 tips. We get 40' with low wind. However we are using telescoping poles now with SoftWash Systems WFP Guns and getting as high and as long as we want.

Hope this helps.

I got the new dual pump from powerwash store. I really like it compared to the homemade setup I had before.

7 gpm at 80 psi. However they have discontinued making them and ONLY make them for us to keep our production going. If you see any out there BUY THEM UP! They will not make them anymore after they finish production on the new SoftWash Systems pump.

I don't think you need to run out and buy them up if you see them. Lots of vendors have them. I talked with one supplier and they said they have not been told that they can no longer get them. They sell lots of them for the agriculture ie: pesticide spraying companies.

 Old posting but...

While a pole of 27 ft may only be 4 lbs, leverage will make it feel heavier. You can get past this problem by counter weighting the butt end. Makes a world of a difference.

We used 200' of 1/2" Kuri tech with a Yamada kynar/teflon AODD pump. Got about 50' distance. Next year the Yamada will be a transfer pump and for small rinse downs. Major upgrade for next year, 1" Hastelloy AODD pump w-5/8 Kuri light weight hose. (This pump was a special purchase deal (the cost of 2 FB), will NEVER need rinsing and will last for years and years). Plus I can run it from a trickle up to full flow, about 30-35 gpm without having to worry about burning anything up. Should be between 60' & 70' distance. We have a lot of steep pitched roofs up here and a lot of very tall churches.

From day one I have been using the Fat Boy. I was pretty happy with it and after a few problems with the switch I always discarded it and added a solenoid. When the last Fat Boy started to act up Barry suggested the Flojet Pentaflex. I used it all summer with 250' 1/2" poly braided hose. We use to use 5/8, but changed two years ago and found there was little to no loss with distance. The pump has a 1/2" inlet and outlet. If the pump had 5/8" or 3/4" I think I would still stay with the easier to use and lighter 1/2" poly braided hose. I'm sure my next pump purchase will be a Pentaflex. The Fat Boys lasted about two seasons because they get rinsed with no less than 5 gals of water after each job. I hope the Pentaflex will as well.
