Side note:

Water all vegetation before any roof or siding Soft Wash. This is standard practice but more important when it hasn't rained in more than a week. Irrigate all vegetation before starting to give everything a good drink, the soil is going to be dry and the plants, shrubs and sod will soak up the first sign of moisture.

If the first drop of moisture is a Soft Wash mix, plants will suck it up immediatly. I suggest irrigating the surrounding vegetation before you start, then during the cleaning and finish up the job with a final rinse of the vegetation's foliage (leaves).

Inform your ground guy to slow down and pay attention to detail (overspray).

I have had more complaints this year about bushes dying or discoloration from housewashing than I ever have.

It has never been a problem. Crazy!. Got a call today for a job I did a month ago.

Andy, we have have never had a complaint about discoloration or dead plants. Does your ground guy water all the greenery (plants, bushes, sod and every thing in between?) It sounds like your ground guy is not doing what he is suppose to do to.

My ground guy hates me because I'm so anal about keeping the vegetation watered down before, during and after. He stays with me because I pay him well and let him know that if I have to replace landscaping after every job, he's going to be looking for a new job!

No doubt it is a lack of water Andy, unless you are using 100% SH for your house wash mix....lol

Seriously though, we spend 1/3 of our time applying the roof application or house wash application and 2/3 of the time is vegetation protection. We never cover the vegetation but keep it watered before, during and after and have never lost a plant, shrub or had to replace any sod with this method.

During drought type situations, flood any areas near downspouts and completely water down all vegetation under the drip line of roof overhangs without gutters and never cover plants or shrubs with tarps or visqueen. Heavy tarps will crush fragile plants and flowers and will burn the helll out of the leaves on any shrub on a hot August day. No need for tarps if you have a good ground guy!

Water, Water and more Water and you will never have a problem like you have had in the past!!!

Andy,

Besides the lack of rain is there a chance your downstreaming or x-jet is putting out too much chemical in the house wash?

Thanks for the help everyone. I use a modified injector from Bob. 1/2 12.5% SH. touch of elimator or roof snot AN 1/2 water for house washing. I have not been devoting as much time as suggested on watering, never had complaints. I will change my methods now or go broke.

Andy,

Believe me when I say I'm not a rocket scientist when it comes to mix ratios. If I'm reading your post correctly it sounds like you're using 3% on the siding. We use no more than 1-2% and the 2% is only on problem areas.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Hank

As a rule when Down Streaming out of a 5 gallon bucket I fill the bucket to the handle with S/H. The rest water and my favorite sufficient. Works fine for me.

Lisa is always spending 10 to 15 min ahead me water the plants when doing house washing. That is the first thing she does when we arrive, I get everything setup and she goes and water. She is the water girl and that is her job to water. We have NEVER had a problem with anything with plant life. Water, water and water!

That's a long way to get soap. I guess you would have to run a stronger mix.

maybe you are forgetting to measure your chems and coming out a little on the rich side of things? Or maybe just not enough water, we have never had a problem with any house washing chems..

I hardly ever need to add hose. Roll out and go to work. getting it stretched out to roll up takes a little longer

What kind of modifications are made to the injectors?

Ed, Im not positive. But I have bought the same injectors from Bob that were not modified and they didn't last near as long. I call and ask for the modified injector rated for my machine and buy two at a time. they last, but it's good for me to keep one. Never tried Sudsucker or major brands because this works for me because I normally roll out 200' of hose and it works.
