Congratulations on the new addition to your Spray Wash family. Too bad I can't find deals like that up here. I check for announcements in the local paper daily and check out the goverment deal site but to no avail. I need a truck now as the motor on my F250 went south on us.

Its a silly question Ray but on that site what types of reserves do you see, does there seem to be an average when it comes to trucks with 100 to 150,000 miles on them?

I love ferreting out good values. Part of getting a great deal on that site is 1) knowing the max you'll pay, don't fall in love, there will always be another good deal next week. 2) being able to sit at computer towards the end of bid and "snipe". 3) being willing to travel a little bit top pick up vehicle 4) be willing to gamble a little bit. Sometimes you get crap, sometime, you get good stuff.

I have 4 vehicle now, all purchased form that site

1998 F250 4x4 extended cab- $2800

2001 F250 - $1700

1996 E250 VAN - $1900

2005 CHEVY 1500 - $3300

There are good deals to be had, and there are some that I scratch my head and wonder what the heck those buyers were smoking.

Seems like a lot of great values come out of the VA, SC, and GA areas.

I've bought two other work truck as part of the fleet that have crapped out on me. (F150 - engine blew after 8 months (sill sold it for only a $1,500 loss) , and a 1998 chevy 2500 work body, engine blew after 1.5 years it (only paid $1900 for it, sold body for $500)

I bought another one (F250 Work-body) that I drove for a year and sold for the same price I paid for it. 

No truck payments, and if I get more than a 18 months out of them, I feel I can leave them on the side of the road when they crap out.(or donate to goodwill for $2,000 and take a tax write-off)

Now, with this awesome deal making I do have some sacrifices. The new estimate vehicle (which is my daily driver, also) has no cruise control, power windows, seats, or locks.

Most of these vehicles, since they are government trucks, are pretty utilitarian inside, but they have been mechanically maintained better than the average regular consumer vehicles. Typically the body paint is pretty scratched and rough, but I wrap them anyway, so its no big deal!

Ray those are good buys. I paid 6500 for a heavy F250 with a 8 foot bed. I gave up my 02 7.3 diesel to make this newest truck happen. We love the freedom our custom truck body gives us.

In the end, you make a valid point. No heavy payments to carry on the books as you grow.

New only lasts to the end of the dealership driveway. Payments, just keep coming.

 I've always just gone and picked them up. Had to buy a couple of new batteries, and do some "parking lot repairs" every now and again.
