My understanding is the percarb and hydrox changes the ph of the wood. Acids are on the other side of the ph scale. So acid is used to pring the ph of the wood back to the middle.

 

This is a pic of a deck we either stripped or cleaned, then the brightener, ox acid. This was a couple years ago.
