Anyone using 10% SH?

I had been using a company that would deliver my SH by tanker truck to my shop. But then the SH just appeared to become weaker and was not very effective. I never called and complained......instead I switched to Univar. The problem with Univar is they only have the 55 Gal drums. So I'm constantly running to the plant for more.

I finally called the other company and they said they were now running 10%. I guess I could use more SH and less water in my mix but I already have some thick GM to deal with and really don't want to take a step backward.......Thoughts?

I don't think using less water would be the answer, stick with the 12%

Run the numbers Doug, the dollars will make the right choice clear. Of course factor in your time to go and get those 55 gallon drums too.

I use to pick up our SH as well, and it was getting VERY weak (watered down one might suspect) as time went on. We're now getting tanker delivery from Univar and it's smokin' hot. It saves me time and money. And I like money

I was getting mine from a pool supply company and I'm sure its hot.....just only 10%.
The numbers are actually better using Univar and it's even stronger.......but the time it takes to constantly go get it is the problem.....and time is money, not to mention fuel.

I was buying from the pool company at $1.89 and Univar sells it to me at $1.55. But the pool company delivers 100-200 gals at a time.

So factor in your time, or better yet, one of your employee's time (and fuel)   Then look at it on an annualized basis.  (I look at most things for my business, expenses and revenue based on an annual run rate, and a seasonal run rate.  It makes most financial decisions more clear)

Univar delivers to us via tanker, 1200 gallons at a time, and we was able to negotiate some very good high volume terms.  Perhaps you can do the same?  Get the best of both worlds as we did?  It saved us over $1k/mo in SH costs!  A nice direct correlation to the bottom line

I have a great relationship with the gal that makes the decision but she simply said they wont deliver to me.....I live in a close in rural area but it is residential. She just say's no residential period.

The other company did a site eval and passed me no problem.....

10% from a pool supply company is what I have been using for the last couple years. They deliver to me 300 gallons at a time. 1.75 a gallon. It works great.

Same as everyone else....for a dedicated pump, 10% 20% 30% depending on what we are cleaning, how dirty it is, and the surface type. For down streaming which is what we do mostly for exteriors of buildings and houses, we fill a five gallon bucket with straight 10%. We use 8 and 10gpm machines w 200 feet of hose. If we need it stronger, we move the bucket closer to the gun.

Isn't that a little strong Doug for D/S? I go 50/50 and it seems to clean fine. But I'm not using 8 GPM.

I pick up my SH at a local pool supply. It's claimed to be 12.5% but I suspect it is closer to 10% but it does the job!

Like Ted, I'm saving over $1K per delivery with Univar. They set me up nice with a 2000 gal tank, for free. The same tank my other supplier wanted $6 Grand to set up.

We use Mini Bulk from Univar. They put a real pretty 550 gallon double wall tank in my shop, and gladly deliver when we need it.

However, we get to pay $2.95 per gallon! If we take less than 400- 500, we get to pay fuel surcharge.

How in the world are their prices so different all over the place? I can't imagine ever seeing those low prices here.

We soothe ourselves with the prices we get to do roof cleaning, since we do not have a competitor on every street corner- yet

Steve - trying to be helpful here - not to rub any salt - the Univar that delivers to me in Va?  They deliver out of Harrison PA!  And I'm paying less than half of what you are, but we go through LOTS of it.  Try to renegotiate your rate this spring perhaps?

Ted is right, renegotiate your price. Univar will drop it to save the business. I started at $1.77/gallon this spring, after they put a 1200 gallon tank in my shop. I am down over .25/gallon With a little negotiation. our minimum commitment with them was for 5000 gallons and we just hit the 10,500 mark, so I just asked for a better price. I also let them know that Kuehne chemical is now offering mini bulk and they have called me a few times with better deals.

Just let them know you want a better price.
