Rusty Water Kills Roof Mix Fast

Just a FYI.

The other day we left the shop with plenty of SH to do two roofs (plus some) not far from here. The homes were on the same street. Once we got to the first house my guys started to prepare the roof mix. After they were finished mixing for the first house they told me the water was extremely rusty. The mix still had a somewhat yellowish tint, albeit not the usual tint, so we moved forward. Low and behold this mix was dead. We skipped this house and went to the second where the water was clear as day as we checked first. We shot the second house with no issues at all. While there we mixed another batch with the neighbor's water rolled down the street and hit that first roof with great results.

Later that day I called my SH supplier and he advised me what happened. He used all technical terms but the bottom line is the sh uses all it's strength fighting the rust and loses it's potency. He did mention that he never heard of it happening that soon. Most times it takes 24 to 36 hours(+-).

Thanks for the input Hank, another reason to upgrade to a filtration system, I might put a prefilter system to Catch the nasty chit first to save on expensive filters

Doug,

Although the proportioner is a good product it would not have eliminated the rust issue.

interesting... but yes with the proportioner it would save the mix since it doesnt mix until you use it
