Soap Injectors Sticking The Next Day

Same issue Jeff even after rinsing. I have not gone into it farther than you to see if there is an O ring. We have just learned to open it, get out the dental pick, clean the ball with a medium 3 M pad and move on. Clipping the spring is a great idea. I've got a new one to install but I will just remove the old one, clean it up and clip the spring.

Hey Brett,..I can't take credit for the clipped spring idea,..problem is,..I don't remember where I read it before,Ha,Ha,..But,..it does work.

There is an o-ring in the hose barb. It looks too be Viton,..(Or at least it's brown like Viton). I may try and find some and replace them if and when the ball starts sticking again. May not make a difference. Servicing these is better than buying all the time. I bought a handful of the orifices last year. You know now that I'm thinking about it,..I think Ed Thompson mentioned before about using an o-ring that had a smaller inside diameter so the ball doesn't get shoved down in the 0-ring? Between doing this and clipping the spring a little,...should eliminate the sticking issue altogether I'd think.

O-ring size is--- little.

I shoot a shot of wd40 then use the dental pick to free up the ball. Works 99% of the time. I try and have my guys rinse them out after every use but you know how that goes.

Bob at PT sells the re-build kit, but if its just the o ring and a spring adjustment. Go to the hardware store and get a o ring.

Hey Mike,..Yea,..having to poke it loose is the issue I'm trying to avoid. gets redundant day in and day out.

I have not found a real hardware store that sells Viton O rings or even knows what I'm talking about.

Just want to reiterate the spring clipping and its effectiveness to stop the sticking. I haven't even been going through the motions to to un-stick the ball,..it hasn't really stuck since I started doing this last season. Simple solution for an irritating problem. Not sure where I learned it from but I'm sure glad I did.

i get so frustrated with DS. I've tried clipping the spring. I keep rebuild kits on all the rigs. I wash them out... and I still have problem with it, at least weekly.

How do you clean the ball? its so small. Every time I try to touch one in the field I wind up on my hands and knees looking for it.

Not sure why the spring clipping isn't working for you Ray,..maybe it doesn't work for everyone? Anyone else doing this with success besides me? I try not to work on these things in the field,..I keep an extra soap injector on hand,..and just pop it in if needed. I work on them inside a cookie type tray. Maybe I'm just lucky with the spring idea,..I know this though,..I haven't had to poke the ball loose for a long while. I used to do it simply outta' habit,.but when I did,..I felt no resistance of a sticking ball.

I'm wondering if running high pressure while the injector is in place "shoves" the ball down into the o-ring more?

We use a 3M pad to clean them. One trick my lead tech figured out was to turn on the soap valve, then turn the by-pass ball valve while spraying. I saw it work the other day. Since he has been doing that we haven't been having problems. If it doesn't work or make sense call me and I'll let you talk to Shawn.

Ok ,..After a thought,..I have been doing I've been doing some experimenting on this.
Last season when I started clipping the spring,.the results were instant,..I no longer had sticking injectors,..even though I would go through the motions to un-stick them,.they were never stuck. But I have found a caveat to this,..and why it was working for me. Clipping the spring indeed stopped my issue,..BUT,..last season I was running a by-pass valve,...and when I would run the surface cleaner I would have the valve bypassing the injector for full flow,..this would in turn take the pressure off the injector,..and not be jamming the ball into the o-ring.

But,..now this year,..I am using the remote soap setup and that eliminates the need for the by-pass ,..So now I have a ball valve on the other side of the reel I can open up for full flow,.but that doesn't take the pressure off the injector that is attached to the other side,....and Since I posted on this last I have run the surface cleaner at full pressure and flow,..and THAT is making the injector stick. So,.all though the spring clipping did help when I was running the by-pass,.. it still can't handle the high pressure it seems.

I think running high pressure through these is what makes them stick. Don't want to shut down and remove the injector,..so the alternative I guess is to add a couple valve to take the pressure off the injector,.or just un-stick it the next day after a job that I used the SC?

*In reality,..I think injectors are just sensitve and people may all have different scenarios and issue with them.

We still use the bypass with our remote....when we go to clean concrete, we bypass and we get that little extra poof of pressure and flow. We must be very fortunate, our DS injectors last 4-6 months with never a problem. We do rinse them out with plenty of water everyday too....

Yea Doug,..I can still run full flow,..but I don't use the by-pass,..I use a ball valve on the other side of the reel,..and open it up when running SC. But my issue is the injector is still in line and being slammed with the pressure. I will give some thought to going back to the by-pass valve as it was last season,..along with the remote. Not that big a deal to pop the ball loose on days when needed,..which isn't every day. Only days after using the SC for an extended period of time.
