Mold From Sunscreen On Resin Chairs
Permalink

I did a job (2) years ago on about 100 pieces of pool furniture at a country club. When I looked at it originally,. I seen the mold on the resin chairs and thought it looked odd,..like big circular blobs of mold,..but still thought is was "just mold",...long story short,..even 12.5% wouldn't dissolve it without physically removing it.  I would have thought at that strength the mold would just disappear on contact,..I was wrong.

Anyhow,.they are ready for them to be done again,..and I've since learned this type mold is from the use of sunscreens and tanning oils and can be REALLY tough to remove.  First,..does anyone here have experience with this type of mold,.and how did you handle it?  And second,..Steve Salley told me about "BT200".  I checked into it a little,..but seems really expensive,..if it doesn't work for my needs.  If it worked it would seem cheap,Ha,Ha,..

*This is actually a job I may turn down due to the resiliency of the mold to conventional thinking.  I have other work at the country club before I do  the chairs,..so I may bring one home with me to experiment some. There are about 100 pieces,.. so I'd like a spray on and spray of type cleaner,..for obvious reasons. Just never seen anything like this mold.

Any advice here would be greatly appreciated!!

Jeff

Jeff,

we run into it on vinyl siding at shore houses. people put on sunscreen on their porch and renters don't care. We tried everything and Dragon JuiCe mixed 1:4 worked the best.

Thanks John,..I'm not familiar with Dragon Juice?

Anyhow,..I'd be seriously impressed if it would clean this mold,..even at full strength. This mold is VERY, VERY tough,..I have never seen anything like it. I am looking for something to spray on and spray off,..I don't care if it has to sit there for an hour, Ha,Ha,..

We used so many products that day to try and find a solution,..12.5% straight,..degreaser,.acids,..etc,...nothing touched it. We ended up using Purple Power full strength and scrubbing with magic erasers. PITA and won't be doing it that way again.

Thanks Art! I checked it out,..seems it's $55.00 a gallon before shipping or $30.00 for 1/2 gallon. I would need a sample before trying it,..and it looks like they don't give samples.

HI Jeff
I cannot vouch for BT200 working specifically on this problem, but it is very cost effective
I think we make 600 plus gallons mixes out of a 5 gallon bucket of product.

I have never been disappointed yet...

Send me your address- I will box up a small quantity for your to try

If it works great we both win

Steve

Thanks for the offer Steve,..I appreciate the offer,.But I e-mailed the eatoils people and they e-mailed back. He seemed to be not real confident in it working on this "Black Mold" said to leave it sit on the chairs for a day and then apply the 12.5% after that. For one there are approximately 100 pieces,.and how do you keep anything wet for a day,..would have to have a vat.

Jeff,

even if the dragon juice does not work, that $55.00 gallon of concentrate will make 20 gallons of gutter brightened. So you could use it either way.
