New member with questions about cleaning

Hey guys, I'm a brand new member that started soft washing last July. I have a question about cleaning homes in the coal regions of North Central Pa. They get coated in a thick layer of coal dust from passing trucks and pressure washing never used to get them unstained. When I switched to soft washing I thought that was the ticket that would take care of that. Absolutely didn't even scratch the surface with a very fresh/hot 6% batch of sh. I followed with pressure washing and was able to knock off the organic dirt and take the stain down about halfway. However there was still a nasty brown/black stain left after this. I think I'm going to have to approach these homes with a diferent method....Maybe acid washing? Thanks for any help on this and in the future.

P.S. Is $550 for a 55 gallon barrel of brick washing cleaner sound about right? They claim this will take 1 mm off the top of the brick and it has two different acids in it. It is recommended to go no stronger than 10:1 with a recommended 20:1 ratio. They said they sell thousands of gallons of this to other pressure washing companies???

Welcome to the NSWA, Jared.

Seems you would want a good degreaser for that coal dust. We don't have that issue here, but EBC...Red Raider...etc. Seem to work (with agitation) on gutter oxidation and smoke damage from wood fires. Seems these homes will need more than spray/rinse regardless of what you use.

I'll have to try a degreaser next time Bryan. The issue is never the actual dirt but is the stain left behind so maybe a good degreaser could help with that? It would be an organic stain so I'll have to see how that goes. Michael the surface is vinyl siding I was asking separately if that price on brick cleaners is normal as I've never bought something like that before. Art thank you, I made it myself lol.

And did I do something wrong that their telling me to read the rules? I didn't see anything in there to lead me to believe that. Maybe their just saying it cuz I'm new and they should be read?

I think we should change to rule #1 to "Obey all rules." (Barney Fife: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtsvsLFYYSg ) :)

Not sure, but the only obvious thing I see is #8 about using your real name, although I don't know how to change a username.  Another is that this thread is usually about introducing yourself which you did briefly in a sentence and then asked questions.  You'll get better response in the General section with specific questions.  But yeah, there's some good stuff on the rule page to take note of.  Admin probably pointed them out for your info and acclimation to the forum.
