Deep cycle vs Dual purpose batteries
Permalink

Since I do little roof cleaning compared to most of you ( mostly an add-on service to painting) I'm just testing out my equipment and noticed my Dual purpose battery is not holding a charge long.

Its 10 years old!

Some reason I was steered into buying a Dual Purpose one back them.

If I am correct a fully Deep cycle battery is the best way going?

Just bought a starter battery for my truck and found out they are only warranted for 1-2 years nowadays

Hey Maverick,..yea,..10 years is pretty old. Not sure,..but I think a dual purpose is basically the same deep cycle properties as a regular deep cycle? Maybe someone can clear that up. But,.. I think they are likely more popular because they are starting/and deep cycle. If you're going to use it much at all,..I'd go get a new one. Get the biggest one you can afford.

price is not an option, always pay more.
its the CCA cold cranking amps you want.

I don't know if a Dual purpose last as long drawing power for our needs as a dedicated deep cycle battery does for our needs.

want most power for extended time.

The nice thing about deep cycle is they last longer, especially when trickle charged. Over the winter I leave a 2 amp charger going. Batteries have lasted 4 - 5 years. High CCA is not a bad thing, for sure.

for whatever the guys at NAPA who sold me the battery and charger at the time said of the 2 options 10 and 2 hr trickle charge to put the dual battery on 10 hr .

I think for our needs just a deep cycle on 2hr trickle is best.

I personally would go with dual purpose. Maybe because when I had a boat they always seemed to make more sense?

This is only for roof cleaning.
but if there's no trade off deep vs Dual then ill just get another dual purpose as a back up battery

I've found that pre treating house washing with roof mix then PRESSURE washing is far faster to clean than PW by itself evan just using a garden hose as the mix breaks down the green algae and black GM.
