First time I ever used the product,..(I've used Sodium Percarbonate by the bag many times though),....I don't use it much anymore,..replaced it with Hydroxide for wood cleaning.  But,..I had a job cleaning a bridge over water and wanted to use something I felt more comfortable with.  Pretty impressed with Oxiclean right off the shelf.  I sprayed it onto the deck which had some very heavy green and black mold/algae growth in some areas,.....Due to a water issue on the site I had to come back about 2.5 hours later to do the rinsing,...It looked all dried up and looked like it did before I sprayed it,..which is normal for Sodium Percarbonate in my experience.  But when I started cleaning,..the wood was cleaning up as fast as I could move the wand,..very impressed with the way Oxiclean worked at penetrating that heavy green/black mold.....Just thought I'd add a little more content to the site.

* Mixed 3 Lbs. to 5 gallons of water

* Was also sprayed on at 6 AM so it did have decent dwell time before it dried up and became inactive.

Hey Jeff

from what i remember oxy-cleen
is percaeb and straight carbonate as a "filler"
its much more expensive than percarb that when activated turns into hydrogen peroxide and its the free oxygen molecules that do the work.

just as hydrogen peroxide foams on a cut acting on the organic material, so does on the organic algae.

I don't think the "carbonate" filler does anything but
i can be wrong.

at least once a year!

Hey Maverick,..Good to see you around! Come back and content to the site when you can!!

Actually,..the Oxiclean worked just as well if not better then pure stuff?   The Sodium Carbonate does add value to the products cleaning ability. Sodium Carbonate is what you get when you buy old fashioned "Arm & Hammer Washing Soda" which many people use for washing interior wood work,.adding to laundry,..etc, etc,..I just don't use a percarbonate that often and I only needed 6 lbs. (10 gallons) of mixed product. I didn't have any percarbonate on hand so I just went and bought a couple tubs,.no big deal and was still VERY cost effective on a $300 cleaning. Here is some info on Washing Soda:

That is good information Jeff. Cleaning anything over water is problematic. We were told by DEQ (Dept. of Environmental Quality) that 1. Any chemicals used for cleaning we have to capture 100% and pump/dump/move to a sanitary sewer. 2. Cleaning with water only it needs to be redirected to grass, dirt, gravel. It can't make it to the storm drains. Now, it gets more interesting. If there are interesting issues, they will give permits. You know the money for the permit takes care of everything! I'm not sure what I would do with a bridge that could be seen by the public.

Hey Brett,,.yea,..I was out of the general publics eye,...it was in rural farm country,.. And you're right,..even if you are doing everything right,...there could be someone who wants to tell on you,..Ha, Ha,.. As far as asking questions of "Those" environmental folks,...I always figured as soon as I'd ask they would throw every freaking bit of deterring criteria they could come up with,....I like the don't ask don't tell approach,..Ha, Ha,..

* Everything I ever read about Oxiclean is it was acceptable for use around water? I didn't feel irresponsible for using it was the main thing for me.

Prior to all the reclaim stuff was available I had to clean a building at UVA. The city just got busted! I had no choice but to call. I told her I would just clean with hot water. When she told me I had to keep it out of the storm drains and redirect it, I told her it was just environmental dirt that also come off with rain. He response, it's not the same volume! Then I asked her how we were supposed to do all that. She said it was up to me to figure it out! At the time there was little available so McGuyver kicked in and made it work. The original price of the job went up!

I used oxiclean once on a small section of decking. It did provide some results but I was unable to get it fully clean with the oxi.
